Federal budget 2014 fails to deliver housing investments

While the Big City Mayors’ Caucus has prioritized housing during this month's meeting in Ottawa, the Wellesley Institute has argued that the federal government remains committed to a rapidly increasing downward trend in housing funding that is causing a sharp reduction in affordable homes. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports that its main national housing program will fall from $3.04 billion in 2010 to $1.68 billion by 2017. During that same period, the number of households assisted under federal funding will drop from 613,500 in 2010 to 492,500 in 2017.  Read more >


Gas Station Theatre has big plans for the Village

A Winnipeg theatre is about to lift the curtain on a $24-million plan to redevelop one of Winnipeg's trendiest corners and add dozens of units of affordable housing to Osborne Village.

The Gas Station Arts Centre hopes to tear down its existing theatre and build an eight-storey complex that would include two or three new commercial units fronting on Osborne Street, a new 300-seat theatre and six storeys of apartments, some earmarked for artists.. Read more >

stay at or above 18.3C (65F) between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

stay at or above 21C (70F) between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m..

The Legal Help Centre is now holding drop-in clinics in the North End.  The Centre provides a monthly drop in clinic for everyone interested in learning more about their legal rights.  They cover landlord and tenant matters, as well as family law matters, wills and estates, small claims, consumer fraud and criminal matters not covered by Legal Aid. Housing Workshops

for Daniel McIntyre/St Matthews Homeowners and Renters


DMSMCA is pleased to present a new series of home maintenance workshops in partnership with Christopher J. Parker of Build Wright Developments. These “hands on” sessions are geared towards homeowners and renters who want to learn the ins and outs of maintaining their own home.


Workshops take place Wednesday nights between 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the DMSMCA building at 823 Ellice Avenue at Arlington. They are free of charge but space is limited so you are required to register in advance.
